Garda Vetting

Students who will be entering schools to carry out teaching practice as part of their Professional Master of Education (NUI) studies in autumn 2024 will be subject to a Garda Vetting procedure.

At the offer stage post 01 April 2024, if you are successful in securing an offer on any of the PME programmes, then the Postgraduate Applications Centre will record your acceptance of that offer of a place.

However, your registration on the programme is subject to compliance with the University's policy on Garda Vetting and the University will provide you with a Garda Vetting Form.

Please note that The Teaching Council also requires registration applicants to undergo the Garda Vetting process after you have completed the PME. PME applicants should therefore not seek to undergo the vetting process via the Teaching Council.

A representative from the Teaching Council will visit PME colleges during your programme to brief students on the role of the Council. At these briefings students will be invited to begin the teacher registration Garda Vetting process. It is important that students attend this briefing and/or make themselves aware of the registration and vetting requirements.

Full details of fees and registration/admissions requirements etc. are available from the relevant university website:
