Welcome to the
Professional Master of Education (NUI)
Programme Entry 2020

Postgraduate PME

The Postgraduate Applications Centre, (PAC) was founded in 1998 to accept applications for admission to postgraduate programmes in the four constituent universities of the National University of Ireland. The purpose of the Centre is to accept and process applications centrally for the Professional Master of Education (NUI) (formerly PDE) in these universities. PAC manages this process.

The PME NUI and MGO is now open for 2020 application intake.

Notice of Changes to Professional Master of Education (PME) Application and Selection System

The following is a summary of the changes to the application and selection system for the 4 NUI PME programmes: NUI Galway, UCD, UCC and Maynooth University:
  • A new Minimum Requirement of H 2:2 in Primary degree or equivalent (for example Degree + Masters) for all PME programmes is now a requirement.
  • New Application Deadline: Friday 31st January 2020 (€100,fee) for all applicants.
  • A new Subject-based application/selection system will be in operation.
  • Students will continue to rank PME programmes by University preference.
This is a very positive and new development as selection will be based on individual specified programme preferences, teaching subjects and priority subjects identified by the DES Teacher Supply Steering Group.

MGO Requirements

Tá cuóta de 30 mac léinn ar an MGO do bhliain 1 2020/21.
The MGO has a quota of 30 students for Year 1 2020/21.

Ní gá go mbainfear an cuóta amach, muna bhfuil caighdeán na n-iarratasóirí sásúil.
There is no obligation to fill the quota if the field is not deemed suitable.

D’fhéadfaí dul thar an cuóta sa chás go bhfuil na hábhair chuí ag iarratasóirí (ag brath ar éileamh sna scoileanna).
Ex-quota places may be added (this is dependant on subject specific school demand).

Is ag OÉ Gaillimh atá an focal deiridh i dtaobh an chuóta.
The decision of NUI Galway in relation to the quota is final.

Spriocdháta ar iarratais ná 31/01/20. (D’fhéadfaí síneadh a chur leis an dáta seo muna líonfar an cuóta.
Closing date for applications is 31/01/20. (The application system may reopen should the quota not be reached).

Cuirfear Scrúdú Béil ar gach iarratasóir mar chuid den phróiseas iontrála.
All applicants will undertake an Oral Irish examination.

Má tá ‘An Ghaeilge’ mar ábhar céime/teagaisc ag iarratasóirí - ní ghlacfar le haon iarratas a bhfuil grád níos ísle na 50% acu sa Ghaeilge (*Beidh ar iarratasóirí fianaise a sholáthar má iarrtar é).
In the case where applicants have ‘Irish’ as a degree subject / teaching subject - A minimum grade of 50% is required. (*Candidates may be requested to provide detailed results transcript).
