Instructions for NUI Maynooth Research Postgraduate Studies Application

(Read these instructions carefully before proceeding with your application)

  1. Prospective research students should have made contact with supervisor/departments prior submitting their application form.
  2. You should familiarise yourself with the entry requirements for each programme to which you apply, as detailed in the current NUI Maynooth prospectus. In particular, you should note the commencement date for each programme and the submission dates for receipt of completed applications.
  3. Each applicant may apply for one research programme.
  4. You must have an active e-mail account in order to use this facility. It is your responsibility to check your account regularly and ensure it is active and in working order. Applicants using webmail e-mail addresses, note you if you have the high junk mail filtering option in your e-mail account, e-mails from the PAC and NUI Maynooth may be flagged as Junk. You must either reduce the Junk mail filter or add PAC (info@pac.ie) and NUI Maynooth e-mail addresses as two of your safe senders.
  5. All communications regarding the status of your application will be sent to you via e-mail. It is your responsibility to ensure that you check your e-mail account regularly for such correspondence.
  6. All applicants MUST note their Postgraduate Studies 8 digit application number which will be given at the final stage of the application procedure. You will need your Postgraduate Application Number to log into your Account on the PAC website to obtain updates on the status of your application. All supplementary documentation forwarded to the Postgraduate Applications Centre MUST be marked with your Postgraduate Application Number.
  7. Please submit all documentation on A4 (or equivalent) size paper. All documentation must be posted to the Postgraduate Applications Centre, 1 Courthouse Square, Galway, Ireland. This information should arrive within 10 working days of submitting your application online. Your application can be assessed only when this information is received.
  8. Supporting documentation or information that cannot be submitted at the time of application (e.g. future exam sittings, English language exams) may be submitted at a later stage by post to the Postgraduate Applications Centre.
  9. If you have a disability that prevents you from completing the online application please advise the Postgraduate Admissions Officer at NUI Maynooth who will arrange an application in an agreed accessible format.

    6. SUPPLEMENTARY FORMS: Please note that there are additional supplementary forms to be downloaded and completed for certain Taught postgraduate programmes. The Supplementary Forms are a vital part of the application procedure for these programmes and applications to these programmes cannot be considered, if the required supplementary forms are not completed and submitted by post to the Postgraduate Applications Centre with your Postgraduate Application Number. If applicable to the programme(s) you are applying for, Supplementary forms will be highlighted (with the Course Code) for downloading after the payment stage of the application in the N.B Read Important Instructions Box.
    7. Non NUI Maynooth students: To complete your application you must submit supporting paper documentation evidencing your qualifications to date (e.g. Transcripts of Results, English Language Competency) and any other information indicated at the end of this application process. Copies of originals must be certified as true copies. Original documentation submitted cannot be returned.
    8. Please submit all documentation on A4 (or equivalent) size paper. All documentation must be posted to the Postgraduate Applications Centre, 1 Courthouse Square, Galway, Ireland. This information should arrive within 5 working days of submitting your application online. Your application can be assessed only when this information is received.

    10. If you have a disability that prevents you from completing the online application please advise the Postgraduate Admissions Officer at NUI Maynooth who will arrange an application in an agreed accessible format.
    11. After you have entered your application details, you will be expected to pay a non-refundable application fee payment of €45. This payment may be made by credit card (MasterCard/Visa) or debit card (Laser). It is also possible to pay by Bank Draft or by Bank Transfer although payments by these methods are subject to an additional administration charge of €5. Should an applicant wish to make an additional application of a different type (i.e. taught or research), the applicant will get this additional application fee free of charge.
    12. Please note that applicants from outside of the EU may be expected to obtain a study visa for entry into Ireland to pursue their studies. Under current immigration regulations available from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, it is not possible to obtain a study visa where you are pursuing a part-time programme. If you are an applicant from outside the EU and are applying for a part time course it is your responsibility to determine whether under Irish regulations nationals from your home country are required to obtain a study visa.
    13. Students who have been offered and accepted a course, will be required to pay an NON–REFUNDABLE deposit of €200, which will off-set against the fees
    14. Students experiencing technical difficulties in making an application should contact PAC.
